Well blokes, I tried it, I have to admit, I have wanted to for a few years. I had heard so much about the benefits of doing YOGA, I thought at some stage I am going to do this. Now also keep in mind, I live my life well, My philosophy is simple I want to try as much as possible before I go.
So I had to badger my poor flatmate, into going with me (I wasn’t going on my own), to the local gym. Mind you I had also booked a massage for an hour before going to Yoga, so I was pretty relaxed when I got there. After entering the room, I found about 30 people, mostly women, aging from 16 – 60, with about 6 guys, all starting to do various stretches, I saw one guy that had bent himself over so far, it looked like I was in a room for SELF PLEASURE class not YOGA.
The instructor arrived fumbled for a few minutes with the music, and the lights, informed us that she didn’t know where the Light Switch was, she was new and that was that. ( guess these things are best done in the dark to music).
My guess the instructor, would of been late 20′s. She launched into stretching, breathing and poses. for the next hour and a half, I swear to god, at one stage, between a Downward dog and a raising cobra stretch, I collapsed and laid there in what I like to call my, I’m staying like this because my body hurts so piss off, stretch. Although the instructor didn’t seem to like my version of the raising cobra, I told her to keep walking.
I stretched muscles that I hadn’t felt in a long time, I realised after sweating so much, that I surely am Unfit, Non flexiable, and at least 15 Kilo’s overweight.
Did I enjoy this class, not really, I wanted to quit about 15 minutes into it, but I stayed for the hour and half. When finished I went and got some salad for lunch, and washed it down with a whiskey, (its important to have balance).
I can see alot of benefit in doing YOGA, The flexiablity, core strength, proper posture, alone would be worth it. Also, there was opportunity to talk to a few single and available women, who liked to take care of themselves, and seemed to appreciate the a slightly overweight and out of shape guy, would make the effort to do a Yoga class.
All up, Yes I will do this again, when my body stops hurting. Who knows, I might even get to talk to a couple of girls again.
For the bloke who doesn’t want to go to a class, get a book, video, internet class, and try it at home.
